As we travel the World Wide Web in search of entrepreneurs who have made their mark on the world, names like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Sergey Bain and Larry Page are the most well-known. They even made the Top 10 Richest Entrepreneurs List on Inc.com.

Yet, how is it that in the 21st century not one woman made it to the top of the list compiled by Inc.com? Could it be because the glass ceiling is alive and kicking?

It cannot be that there are no rich women in the world. Oprah Winfrey is worth $3 billion and then we have Liliane Bettencourt of L’Oreal fame who though no longer actively at the helm of the company does have a worth of $34.5 billion.

It is astonishing to realize that regardless of how fast women are gaining a foothold in the list of the ‘rich and famous’ world there remains a dual standard of judging males and females. Search online for the ‘richest entrepreneurs’ and you get list upon list of the rich and powerful. However, there is a clear division in the lists as men and women are demarcated separately.

In an attempt to bridge the gap we will be focusing on men and women entrepreneurs of the world and judging them not according to the wealth they have gathered (though that will be considered), rather we will create a monthly focus on how innovative and socially innovative they have proven to be.

The criteria of judgment will be:

  • • Innovative Chi: This is in other words the #entrepreneurs’ spirit and commitment to their venture. It will demonstrate the manner in which they overcome risks, persevere against the odds and show independence in their innovative idea.
  • • Finance and Sustainability: Many ventures are a few years wonder. The entrepreneurs that show long term revenue and profitability in their organization’s performance will be the ones known to be judged for the quality of their investments.
  • • Social Impact: Anyone can make money, entrepreneurs that make money while creating a socially positive goal that helps improves lives, globally and locally are the ones who need to be commended and listed as the most powerful people of the world.
  • • Communication and Influence: The ability to communicate their idea, visualize their goal and make it possible to influence the world through that idea is the core of the entrepreneurial spirit.
  • • Strategic Growth: The ability to grow the business and allow it to compete at a national or international level has to be the vision of the entrepreneur.

The first name we have decided to spotlight is Anna Wilkinson.

Anna is one of the less known entrepreneurs and may never make the list of the richest or most powerful but I had to give her the respect she deserves. She has opened a rehabilitation company MoreRehab that helps provide treatment to patients suffering from traumatic injuries. Though the center she works at was established in the 1960’s and is based in South Yorkshire, Anna as a Partner/ Consultant in the center established MoreRehab.com in 2010 and headquartered it at Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. She also has clinics at Doncaster, Hathersage, Worksop, Ripley Dronfield, and two clinics in Sheffield.

What makes her so special? She has a hearing disability that causes 70% hearing loss. Yet, she has overcome the challenges of her disability and striven to help others. She recently made it to the finalist for the Leonard Cheshire Disability Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs in the UK.

Focusing on the innovative and latest technologies in the field Anna and her partners strive to complete rehabilitation exercises that help improve orthopedic and neurological damage in the limbs and body. Their focus on research has allowed new discoveries to be made one of which highlights the stressors that can be ignored when designing for rehabilitation and designing for the user.
